Sonu Nigam delivered an emotional performance of Mere Dholna from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 during his recent concert in Bengaluru. And it marked the first time he sang the song on stage. The experience was particularly poignant for him, as he broke down in tears while performing, sharing his heartfelt emotions with the audience.

In a video shared by the singer, he recounted that he hadn’t planned or rehearsed the song but felt compelled to sing it when the atmosphere became charged with emotion. “Today, after performing in Bengaluru, I realized that sometimes, even if a person doesn’t sing perfectly, the energy and connection created with the audience can be incredibly powerful,” he said. He mentioned that after singing Bijuria, he hesitated about whether to take the risk of including Mere Dholna but ultimately decided to proceed, despite his emotions overwhelming him.

“I cried so much on stage; I’ve never experienced such depth of emotion before. If I could have, I would have stopped, but then people might think I was teasing them by not finishing the song,” Sonu remarked. He revealed that the songs Abhi Mujhme Kahi from Agneepath and Mere Dholna often bring him to tears, making it understandable that he would be especially emotional while performing Mere Dholna.

Sonu reflects on a key moment

Reflecting on a key moment in his life, Sonu shared, “I used to cry like this after my mother’s passing in 2013. It’ll be 12 years on February 28. For several years after her death, whenever I sang ‘Kya Hua Tera Waada’ on stage, I would break down. Thankfully, it has lessened over time.”
